Guardrail – Shingle
A guardrail increases the safety and sense of security when staying on a roof and prevents falls. A guardrail is a so-called collective fall protection, which means that you can move around on the roof without having to be anchored with personal fall protection equipment. For low-pitch roofs less than 6°, the entire roof can be surrounded by guardrails. Walkways and roof ladders can also be fitted with guardrails. If the walkway is located closer to the ridge than 1 m, a guardrail is required on both sides; if the distance is longer, a guardrail in the direction of the pitch is sufficient. On steep roof ladders with a slope of more than 30 degrees and lengths of more than 4 metres, you must be anchored even if a guardrail is present. Working platforms should also have guardrails in the direction of the fall.
